International Science Diplomacy Initiatives
This page tracks two related but distinct kinds of international science cooperation. International Science Programmes are typically open to any country willing to join — treaty-based or intergovernmental initiatives like CERN or the ITER fusion reactor, with membership that spans the globe. ERICs (European Research Infrastructure Consortia) are different: a legal and funding framework created specifically by the EU to jointly build and operate shared research infrastructure, such as ICOS for carbon monitoring — though individual ERICs can and do include non-EU member countries too. Comparable regional research-infrastructure frameworks from other continents will be added over time as the platform’s coverage expands. Membership data is sourced directly from each programme’s official membership pages.
Programmes and ERICs are listed as cards below, grouped by domain — click through to jump to their column in the membership matrix underneath. The matrix lists every country as a row and every programme or ERIC as a column, with a coloured dot marking the type of membership. Click a column to highlight a programme, or a country row to see its full profile in the sidebar.

ERICs are legal entities established by the European Commission to operate pan-European research infrastructures on a non-profit basis. Click any card to see details and filter the membership matrix below.
